6 Attitudes To Bring Back Hope In The Face Of An Adversity

When anxiety or fear or discouragement or confusion overflow, the silent monologue within our heart and mind boils down to this one thought : “ I feel like giving up, I have no energy to cope with this, I have lost this battle.” Just at that time reach out for Hope. Since “Hope is the only thing stronger than fear” says Suzanne Collins.

“Hope is a powerful therapy.” asserts medical journalist Dr. W. Gifford-Jones to achieving a happier state of mind. A happy life and a positive perspective gives you the strength to get up and face the challenge life has thrown at you.

Let us discuss 6 attitudes that could bring back hope in the face of adversity.

Hold the blames, forgive and readjust

The most common traps we fall in an adverse situation, are the blame trap or guilt trap.
It is human tendency to either put the responsibility of the adversity outside or on ourselves (blame trap) which then results in guilt trap. Hold those blames, forgive all those involved including yourself. This is not the time to point fingers, this is the time to work on the situation and picking yourself up. This is the time to readjust the strategies to fight this through.

Accept what is

If you cannot change it, accept it. The more you fight with it the more you will suffer. So just accept it. Remember acceptance does not mean giving in. Acceptance just means acknowledging that the problem exists so that you can then move to finding ways to resolve or mitigate it.

Hold the negative thoughts spiralling in your head

Psychology says, when hit by an adversity our minds have a natural bias towards assuming negative outcomes, which then create a spiralling effect taking us deep down to depression.
Hold those thoughts, do not think of the past nor worry of the future, embrace the peace of your current moment. In this moment you are breathing, you are alive, you are safe. Feel and observe your breath.

Reassess your judgement about the situation

Is it so severe ? Is it so important ? Am I the first person in the world to deal with this kind of a thing ?

More often than not the answers to these questions would be No. Things may not be as severe as they may have seemed to you on the onset. And there would be people before you who walked the same path and you could take inspiration from their stories. Do not hesitate to ask their support, more often than not they will be more than happy to support and guide.

Feed your faith and Harbour Gratitude

Look back at your blessings up until now, look back at the difficult times in your life and how you have survived them till date. Believe that you are loved and that love is blessing you in many ways and will support you through this too.

Use the freedom “Rock Bottom” brings you

Rock bottom does have its unique advantage, “Having lost it all you have nothing to lose.” This gives you tremendous freedom and a zest to try to make things better.

Hope because the Universe hears you.
Hope because the Universe works for you.
Hope because the Universe speaks to you.
Hope because the Universe will finish what it began in you.
