One of the greatest human needs is the need to be understood. You may not realize it but according to some recent research, the fact is that the “Being understood” factor plays a key role in our overall wellbeing. A two-week diary study showed that people reported greater life satisfaction and fewer physical symptoms on days in which they felt more understood by others.
While being understood by others is what seems to be our prime need, reality is quiet different. What is more fundamental is the need of being understood by yourself.
Understanding yourself is so important because when we have a better understanding of ourselves, we are able to experience ourselves as unique and separate individuals. Not only does this then empower us to further build on our strengths and identify areas where we would like to make improvements, but it also helps us understand our quirks and the dark in us. Only if you know and understand the darkness can you learn to shine through it.

The Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an introspective self-report questionnaire designed to indicate psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions.
The MBTI was constructed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. It is based on the typological theory proposed by Carl Jung, who had speculated that there are four principal psychological functions by which humans experience the world – sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking – and that one of these four functions is dominant for a person most of the time.
The MBTI was constructed for normal populations and emphasizes the value of naturally occurring differences. “The underlying assumption of the MBTI is that we all have specific preferences in the way we construe our experiences, and these preferences underlie our interests, needs, values, and motivation.” (Source : Wikipedia)
